Junior Achievement (JA) is a nationally recognized curriculum that focuses on entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy. On Friday, October 30 and Friday, November 13, join the student club Enactus and volunteer teach for the morning. Curriculum and materials are provided as well as your breakfast and transportation!  We would like volunteers to sign up a week before the teaching date so Friday October 23rd and Friday November 6th  at midnight is the deadline to sign up for either of the volunteer dates and you can sign up for both. 1st — I was on Beaver Careers with a student last week and we noticed there are a lot of job postings already on Beaver Careers (industry, full time, internships).  You may want to take time to review before classes start.

OSU accounting program’s accreditation extended for five years

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has formally extended the accreditation of the OSU accounting program for another five years. Congrats to the accounting faculty, staff, and students!

INTERNSHIP:
Accounting Internship
We are seeking to identify candidates for full-time roles based on this internship experience.
This full-time twelve-week internship is scheduled to begin in June 2015.  Portland, OR

Cambia’s Financial Accounting Services is dedicated to providing world class financial services through excellence in people, process and technology. Join this dynamic team and gain real-world accounting experience.

Become a team member of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Team within the Finance Division.
Duties and opportunities include:
·         Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations to support monthly financial statement closes and financial statement analysis
·         Assist in the preparation of the insurance industry regulatory reporting
·         Implement process improvements, including those you discover
·         Participate in the development of policies, procedures and practices that are part of the Company’s set of internal controls
·         Assist with financial examinations and audits

Combine your education and analytical ability with the following skills to meet the position qualifications:
·         Minimum of 3 years university education, working toward a degree in Accounting or Business with an Accounting emphasis; one year from graduation preferred
·         Completion of the Intermediate Accounting sequence or its equivalent
·         Required intermediate skill level with Microsoft Excel, prior completion of college coursework using Excel preferred
·         Achievement of 150/225 CPA certification requirement by June 2015 preferred
·         Required minimum overall GPA of 3.2; Accounting GPA of 3.4
·         Ability to think analytically and make sound judgments from analysis
·         Strong written and verbal communication skills
·         Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
·         Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

·         There’s a negotiated start date, so students can of course start after they graduate.

·         We are seeking financial (accounting) interns to assist with our statewide audit this summer.
·         The internship should open for applications the week of April 20th and be open for three weeks.
·         The qualifications for the internship include the 300-level accounting series.
·         The internship is paid and students can expect to work 32-40 hours per week in Salem.
·         Interns are given training and coaching to perform the same work as would be given to an entry-level staff.

Staff Accountant I, II, or III
Portland, OR

We are always looking for talented and qualified Accounting individuals. Within the Accounting department, we offer exciting opportunities depending on your level of experience and qualifications!

The Accountant I is an hourly, entry-level staff position.
Responsibilities include journal entries, supporting schedules, reconciliations and account analysis, and basic system maintenance and administration.

Key qualifications and experience for an Accountant I:

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or two or more years of relevant experience
• Familiar with Microsoft Office or similar software
• Ability to think analytically and to make sound judgments from analysis
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
• Ability to plan and organize own work
• Ability to work flexible hours during periods of heavy workloads

The Accountant II/III are responsible for specific general or cost accounting activities or functions which can include the preparation, review, analysis and verification of the following:

• Corporate GAAP and statutory financial statements and regulatory reports
• Cost allocations in compliance with CAS
• Develop policies and procedures to support internal controls
• Account and report reconciliations
• Develop internal and external accounting reports, including audit schedules

In addition, this position will:

• Provide support and coordination for the operation of complex financial systems
• Provide ad-hoc assistance, training, and guidance to departmental staff

Key Qualifications and Experience:

Accountant II

• BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with zero to two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
• Knowledge of Financial Reporting and General Accounting: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) for Health Care Service Contractors and Health Maintenance Organizations as promulgated by the NAIC.
• Knowledge Cost Accounting: Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR); GAAP and SAP
• Knowledge of Government Accounting: FEHBAR, FAR, CAS, GAAP
• Thorough knowledge of PC and mainframe software and systems as currently used by the Company
• Ability to think analytically and to make sound judgments from analysis
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels in the work force
• Ability to plan and organize own work
• Ability to work flexible hours during periods of heavy workloads

Accountant III
The above plus:

• BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with two to four years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and significant work experience with demonstrated accomplishments and expertise. CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
• Leadership abilities such as managing projects, training staff, and leading cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to plan and organize own work, projects and the work of others in the department, with minimal supervision
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with all levels of staff and management
• Ability to work flexible hours as required, including moderate out-of-town travel
• Ability to research and prepare ad-hoc reports
