How to Become a Member

Becoming a Beta Alpha Psi member is highly recommended if you are an accounting major! Each week, we invite professionals to speak about various topics relating to accounting and your career. Attending these meetings can give you the opportunity to learn about the different accounting career paths, as well as familiarize yourself with firms that recruit directly from OSU. Come eat some food, listen to professionals, and build your network!

If you are a sophomore, see bottom of page for your specialized requirements.

  • Have completed, or are currently enrolled in an upper-level major-specific class (ACTG 317, FIN 340, etc).

Note: Candidates must complete the membership requirements within the same academic year in which the student applies for membership.

Step Three: Maintaining Membership

  • Maintain the membership grade requirements as listed in the table at the top of the page.
  • Complete the 20 hour requirement for returning members, found here.

Historically, students who were going through the 200-level accounting classes have not been allowed to join Beta Alpha Psi until after they have been accepted into Pro-School. For sophomores that have not yet been accepted into Pro-School, and are interested in joining Beta Alpha Psi, there are slightly different requirements for membership that are applicable to your class standing.  This is a rigorous pathway to membership and seriously interested sophomores can consider joining Beta Alpha Psi according to the following guidelines:

  • Must be currently enrolled in (or recently completed) BA 211 or BA 213,
  • Must intend to declare Accounting when applying to Pro-School,
  • Must serve as a candidate from time of entry, through the completion of ACTG 317 the following fall term,
  • Must fulfill the 40-hour requirement (including tutoring and community service) before completion of ACTG 317 in the fall,
  • Must meet the GPA requirement listed above before being initiated at the end of fall term,
  • Must pay the $100 non-refundable membership fee,
  • And must understand that this pathway to membership is slightly different than that of upperclassmen due to requirements by the national Beta Alpha Psi organization, and as such may be more challenging for lower-division students to complete.

If you have any questions about meeting these requirements or how you can complete your 40-hour minimum requirement, please contact Aaron Hiddleson ( or any of the other officers.
