Eugene:

Mentor Program:
The OSCPA is currently accepting student applications for the 2016 Coaching Program. We are asking for your help in notifying students of this career development opportunity available to OSCPA Student members.
What is it?  The Coaching Program is an opportunity for students to meet and talk with an active, experienced accounting professional who can help answer all their questions about accounting as a career. It runs May 1 – August 31, 2016 and is designed to help students learn more about the industry, the day-to-day job of a CPA, refine interview and resume skills, and start building their network in the profession.
Who qualifies to participate?   OSCPA Student members can participate in the Coaching Program if he/she is an active college junior, senior, post baccalaureate or masters accounting student taking at least 6 credits and signs up by April 15, 2016.

2.  The Auxiliaries & Activities Business Center (AABC) at Oregon State University (OSU) is seeking one full-time Fiscal Coordinator 1.
The AABC was created to help better serve the financial, accounting, human resources, and administrative needs of OSU’s auxiliary and student fee-based units. Those twelve units are as follows: University Housing and Dining Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, Facilities Services, Specialized Administrative Services, University Conference Services, Office of Human Resources, Public Safety, Memorial Union, Recreational Sports, Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services and Diversity & Cultural Engagement. In addition to serving these units, AABC also serves student organization units: Associated Students of OSU (ASOSU), Student Leadership & Involvement, Educational Activities, Student Access & Family Resources, and other student organizations.

Reporting to the Finance & Accounting Manager within the AABC Student Experience Center (SEC) Finance & Accounting team, the Fiscal Coordinator assigns and participates in the analysis, planning, interpreting, and review of the payroll and fiscal operations of the AABC units. With the help of her/his team, the Fiscal Coordinator will have broad oversight over the following AABC payroll areas: transaction monitoring, time entry, unit reporting, unit budgeting/forecasting, unit fiscal analysis, check distribution and statements, manual check process, student and temp timesheets, EmpCenter audits and trainings, stipend uploads, leave uploads, AABC website management, payroll trainings, answering payroll related questions for employees and supervisors, liaison to AABC Human Resource team, and central payroll. The Fiscal Coordinator also participates in and supports on-going quality improvement activities. Pursues, documents, and evaluates own continuing professional development and functions as part of the AABC SEC Finance and Accounting team.

3.  Internship opportunity with $3 Billion NYSE listed Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California
Mercury Insurance (Ticker “MCY”) is hiring for summer interns in 2016.  The position has flexible work hours (30 to 40 per week), flexible start and finish date (must work at least 8 weeks) and pays $16.56 an hour.  This position will assist with Finance Department projects which may include Economic Capital Modeling, Financial Planning and Analysis, Cost Benefit Studies, and Cost Accounting Projects.

Position is located at 4484 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA.  Qualifications:  Major in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.  Must have completed (by summer start date) junior level core Accounting or Finance courses to be considered for position.  Prefer candidates who will graduate with a B.S. in Finance or Accounting within one year of internship.
