JANUARY 22, WEEK 3—COGENCE GROUP — Forensic Accounting — Legal perspective Early Career Success, how does that happen? Jay Sickler, is an OSU grad and founder of Cogence Group, a specialized financial forensics firm in Portland.  He will be talking about early career success, and how to make that success happen. Jay has worked in inter- national accounting firms on two continents, and over the past 20 years in Portland he has established himself as the top expert witness in the areas of financial forensics and business valuation.  He has testified as an expert in more than 100 cases. After 30 years of professional experience, he knows what it takes to make it in both very large and very small firms.

Internship Opportunity:

1.  (See attached flyer) The Business Systems Directorate at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is looking for summer interns with a strong background in accounting, finance, contract management, or general business. Each of these positions is paid and consists of one or more rotational assignments in the Financial Operations, Contracts or Business Office functions.

Each successful candidate will be involved in a 13 week summer internship program with an opportunity to present in front of top management at our corporate location in Columbus, Ohio. Interns will be introduced and trained on multiple computer programs and various business systems throughout the summer.

A PNNL application must be on file before an interview is granted. Interested parties must apply online at http://www.jobs.pnnl.gov/ under job ID #302866 (Accounting/Finance position), job ID# 302864 (Contract position) and/or job ID# 302877 (Masters/Graduate position) before January 31, 2014.

On behalf of The OSCPA Educational Foundation, this is a reminder to encourage your students to apply for a 2014 scholarship. The Foundation Board raises a large pool of funds each year to be awarded to Oregon college students interested in pursuing a career in accounting. We need your help to increase our applicant pool.

The scholarship deadline is January 24, 2014 for 2014 scholarships (fall 2014 through spring 2015). Please let me know when a good time would be to send you a follow-up reminder to help encourage your students to apply.

Having a ‘Class of 2014’ Composite hanging in the new business building will really mean a lot to the Accounting Professors.  It’s the least we can do in return for all of the hours they’ve spent teaching us the difference between a debit and a credit.
